Zeldin Announces Run for Governor

by Niall Fitzgerald

Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) has announced that he is running for New York Governor. The Suffolk County Republican has represented New York's First congressional district since 2014. He previously served two terms as a NYS Senator.

"This is our last chance to save our state." stated Zeldin. "I am all-in to bring back New York from the brink and return it to glory. That is why I am running for Governor. To save New York. Losing is not an option."

Zeldin cited the crushing NY tax burden and soaring violent crime as reasons why people are fleeing New York and relocating to states like Florida and North Carolina. New York is bleeding jobs and businesses to other parts of the country. Over one million New Yorkers have moved-away over the past five years.

Zeldin blamed scandal-scarred Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-Westchester) and one-party Democratic Party rule in New York as the reasons for those crises.

"This is the first time in my lifetime that's there's a one-party Democratic rule in New York City, Albany and Washington all at the same time," added Zeldin. "Under Cuomo’s failed leadership, our best and brightest are packing up their lives and heading for greener pastures. Cuomo has driven our state into the ground... We cannot survive 16 years of Cuomo's reign."

Zeldin's campaign has seen immediate success. He has already raised over $3.5 million, and received the endorsement of a majority of the Republican and Conservative party chairs.

"Lee has the combination of stature of accomplishment, national stature and name recognition, and the ability to rally the base and also secure the support of unaffiliated voters..." added Suffolk Republican Chair Jesse Garcia.
