Yankee Legend at Glen Cove Summer Concerts

Yankees’ great Bernie Williams stopped by Glen Cove’s “Downtown Sounds”weekly concert this past Friday.
“Downtown Sounds”, has been presented by Glen Cove’s Business Improvement District since 1997, at the Glen Cove Village Square Plaza. It is held every Friday through the end of August.
One can always count on quality at ‘Downtown Sounds”and this past Friday was no different. On stage were the Lords of 52nd Street consisting of multi-instrumentalist Richie Cannata, drummer/percussionist Liberty DeVitto, and guitarist Russell Javors - all inductees to the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Along with late bassist Doug Stegmeyer, they comprised Billy Joel’s band between 1976 and 1981, during the time of Joel’s greatest hits such as “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”, “Miami 2017” and “You May Be Right”- all of which they helped to create.
Williams, 52, originally from Puerto Rico, played MLB for 16 years, from 1999 to 2007, all for the Yankees. He has been called the greatest switch-hitting center fielder in history and ended his career with a .297 batting average, 287 home runs, 1,257 runs batted in (RBI), 1,366 runs scored, 449 doubles, and a .990 fielding percentage. He was part of four World Series Championship Teams. To honor him the Yankees retired his number of 51.
Williams is a classically trained guitarist with two jazz albums to his name. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2009. He knows where the good music is and now you do too.
