Saladino to Host “Youth Baseball Clinic” - with Mookie Wilson

By Thomas Nothel

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that Oyster Bay will be hosting a youth baseball clinic this summer - featuring 1986 World Series Champion and Mets fan favorite - Mookie Wilson.

“We are so excited to partner with one of the most beloved players in the history of the New York Mets – Mookie Wilson – to host a youth baseball clinic right here in the Town of Oyster Bay,” stated Saladino.

“Boys and girls who attend this program will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to play baseball with an accomplished World Series Champion and MLB Coach,” added Saladino. “I encourage families to register their children now, as space is very limited and spots are filling up quickly.”

Boys and girls in from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade grade (ages 4- 13) are invited to meet, listen, and play ball with Mookie Wilson. In addition to the Clinic, each child will receive a T-shirt and an autographed picture. The participation fee is $100 per child. Registration is online at https://pioneersports.leagueapps.com/events

Mookie played for the New York Mets from 1980- 1989. Among Career Mets leaders, Wilson is second all time in Triples (82) sixth in Hits (1112), second in stolen bases (281).and sixth in run scored (592). He is best known for hitting the ground ball in the tenth inning of game 6 of the 1986 World Series that went through the legs of Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner on which the game winning run scored. Wilson believes he would have beat Buckner to first base if Buckner had caught the ground ball.

The Clinic will take place on Sunday, July 30th from 9:30am – 12:30pm at Borella Field in Plainview – at 650 Plainview Road.
