Roosevelt Sanctuary to Host Audubon Tree ID Nature Walk

The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary in Oyster Bay will be hosting a Tree Identification Nature Walk on Saturday April 20th. The Tree Walk is being run by the Sanctuary's Audubon Center, and will be held from 11:00AM until 12:00PM.

Leading the forest walk will be Richard Weir, who is an expert in botany, including woody plants, trees, and shrubs. Weir is the proprietor of Horticultural Solutions and is the former Program Director in Horticulture, Environmental Issues and Water Education at Cornell Cooperative Extension,  He has also worked with SUNY Farmingdale and the New York Botanical Gardens.

Weir will be the guide who will share his wealth of knowledge on the 14 acres of the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary grounds, where many of the trees are over 100 years old.

Although there is no specific cost, this program has a suggested donation of $5 per person.

Public parking for this delightful event will be shared with Young's Memorial Cemetery and located in gravel parking lot, disability parking (2 spots) is located up the center’s driveway.    

The outdoor walking terrain ranges from grass, to small stones and wood chips on the paths, to concrete and asphalt on the parking lots and sidewalks.
