Panzenbeck Swears-in New Glen Cove Police

Glen Cove Mayor Pam Panzenbeck swore in three new Glen Cove Police officers last week.

Family, friends and members of their community watched and cheered as the officers took the oath of office.

Andres Sicam, age 24, graduated from the Glen Cove High School, and earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Courtland and his master’s degree in health education from SUNY Brockport.

He worked as a counselor for Glen Cove’s YMCA from 2015 through 2022, and for the past three years as a physical education teacher in the Glen Cove schools, and coached both varsity and junior varsity football.

Jahrae O’Neill, age 27, also graduated from the Glen Cove School District. He received his bachelor of arts degree in criminology from SUNY Old Westbury. He worked with the Glen Cove Youth Bureau. Still an athlete, he plays baseball, basketball and softball. He hopes to inspire others to serve their community.

Erasmo Troia, also 27 years old, always knew he wanted a career in law enforcement. While growing up in Old Brookville he spent much of his time in the Police Explorers Club. He volunteered with the Gleenwood Fire Department while still attending the North Shore School District. He attended Nassau Community College where he earned an associate degree in criminal justice. As a member of the NYPD Troia arrested many drug dealers.

In 2021 he was involved in arresting the dealers in a high-profile narcotics case.

Glen Cove prides itself on the new police officers' community involvement.

Glen Cove’s police Chief William Whitton, commented at the swearing in ceremony, “My hope is that you will have long careers full of opportunities to enforce the law. But not just to enforce the law. The opportunity to help others is even more important. That is what we do in Glen Cove, we help a lot of people."

Mayor Panzenbeck credited the Glen Cove police department as a major factor in the city’s placement on the Money.com’s list of best places to live.

Crimegrade.org ranks Glen Cove as one of the safest places to live in the nation. Reporting it has 98 percent safer than other US cities.
