Man Killed in Woodbury Diner Parking Lot

A man was killed at 2:30 PM in the parking lot of the On Parade Diner in Woodbury, when a drunk driver from Woddbury, William Specht, backed over him.


Dead is as Joseph DeVito, age 61 of Wantagh. He had just exited the Diner when the car driven by Specht backed over him, impaling him onto the handicap railings at the diner's entrance.


According to Nassau Police,Specht drove his entered his gray 2004 Infiniti sedan backwards and struck DeVito, who had just exited the diner.


DeVito suffered severe trauma and was transported by Nassau County Ambulance to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 3:45 PM.. Police allege that Specht's blood alcohol level was over three times the legal limit. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, manslaughter and reckless endangerment, and is being held on $250,000 bail. The Court scheduled Specht to be back in Court on Jan. 23rd.
