The Turkey Trot

On a brisk, sunny fall day, more than 125 runners and walkers gathered at Centre Island Beach for the Annual Turkey Trot and Chicken Run sponsored by the Matthew Fetzer Foundation. This annual event was first held in 2009 following the much too early passing of their twelve year old son, Matthew in April, 2005.

The estimated $10,000 raised is used to buy toys and etc. for children who are in treatment in hospitals in the New York City metropolitan area.

The funds raised are primarily in the form of gift cards. Ann and Bill Fetzer visit the hospitals with volunteers who have reported that they get more out of the visit than the children get out of the gifts.

The winner of the Turkey Trot was Elizabeth Caldwell from Glen Head.
