Lt. William L. Davis Honored


Lt. William Davis was remembered by the members of the Robert Spittel Post 1285 of the American Legion on August 7th the day he was killed in 1945 in Nurnberg, Germany. Bob Davis, the Lieutenant’s brother was on hand along with his wife to witness the moving ceremony conducted at the Monument of Remembrance.

Mr. Bob Davis recounted how his brother, William had to get their mother to give him permission to join the AirForce because the future Lieutenant was underage, a mere 17-years of age. he wanted to be a flyer. In order to be a flyer, he had to be an officer. He was sent to Officer School for two-years followed by flight school and earned his wings.

Lt. William Davis was a member of the 353rd Fighter Squadron - 9th Air Force, earned the Air Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
