Emergency Repairs on Bayville Bridge Completed

During the week of June 22, the Nassau County Department of Public Works completed emergency work on the Bayville Bridge. The work was needed to reinforce a structural column on the bridge that was identified during a recent inspection of the structure. According to Nassau County Department of Public Works Chief Buildings Engineer Mr. Paul Cimino, the work was scheduled to begin on Monday, June 22 and be completed on time on Friday, June 26. However, published notice of the bridge closing on Monday and Tuesday, June 22, and 23 did not occur, causing residents of Bayville and Centre Island to be needlessly inconvenienced due to the failure to publish a revised notice of closing. Mr. Cimino further commented that the work would not require any further maintenance periods and that no other scheduled maintenance is planned for the bridge in the near future.
