Blood Drive Draws A Crowd

The bi-annual blood drive sponsored by the Locust Valley Rotary and hosted by the Locust Valley Fire Department drew a crowd of over 100 donors on March 4. Lt. Chuck Savinetti explained that, thanks to the ardent efforts of the membership of the Locust Valley Rotary, who “made phone calls, hung up signs,” and got the word out to the community, 95 pints of much needed blood were collected during the event. Savinetti commented that the numbers during the winter month drive are usually lower than during the summer, primarily due to the weather. He further noted that he and the other members of the committee were pleased with the turn out and collection of blood and noted that the event “went really well.” During last year’s winter blood drive, 83 pints of blood were collected. In addition to thanks issued to the host of volunteers who worked at the fire house and behind the scenes to spread the word about the event and stressed the importance of donating blood, Savinetti thanked the one-hundred donors who took time out of their busy day to help others.
The next blood drive will be held at the Locust Valley Fire Department on August 5.
