Local Residents Join Glen Cove Hospital Advisory Council

The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well at Glen Cove Hospital, as evidenced by the enlistment of two active community residents, Christine Pell of Glen Cove and Howard Grace of Oyster Bay Cove, who recently joined the hospital’s advisory council.
Members of the advisory council serve as a liaison between Glen Cove Hospital, part of the 14-hospital North Shore-LIJ Health System, and the community. Members of the council represent a broad spectrum of the community, including churches and synagogues, local businesses, healthcare organizations, nonprofit agencies, as well as hospital staff members and individuals with a long-term association with Glen Cove Hospital.
Mrs. Pell has been giving back to the community for more than three decades. She is a lifetime member of Glen Cove Hospital’s Auxiliary and has served for thirty-five years on the board of directors of the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club. Mrs. Pell and her husband, Peter, have six children, four of whom were born at Glen Cove Hospital. She said that all of her family’s doctors are affiliated with Glen Cove Hospital. Upon joining the advisory council, Mrs. Pell said, “I believe a strong community hospital is vital to any neighborhood and I’m pleased to be a part of its continued growth.”
Mrs. Pell is a graduate of the Green Vale School and the Emma Willard School, and received a degree in computer science from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. At the Green Vale School, she headed the Parents’ Association and served as a trustee before accepting a position as its second head of technology, and then worked as assistant business manager and director of development.
Mr. Grace, who is a family wealth director at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Manhattan, has had a lifelong interest in the field of medicine and science. He received a BA from Yale University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management, but early in his college career he was a pre-med major, working in an emergency room at a New Hampshire hospital. An avid sportsman, Mr. Grace grew up in Brookville and noted his strong connection to Glen Cove Hospital, recalling many visits to the hospital’s emergency room for minor sports-related injuries.
Over the years, Mr. Grace has been involved with Glen Cove Hospital in a variety of capacities, including serving on the POPS concert committee, an annual fundraiser, and chair of the event’s journal committee for two years. He is also an associate trustee of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “There are few things more important than your health and safety, and I value the aspect of a community hospital being the best that it can be in serving families,” said Mr. Grace. “I look forward to increasing our outreach and spreading the word about Glen Cove Hospital, and helping to direct people to the medical care they may need.”
Mr. Grace and his wife, Debbie, have been married for over thirty years and have five children. Within the Long Island community, Mr. Grace has served as chairman of the East Woods School Board and is a trustee of the Society for Preservation of Long Island Antiquities and chairs its Investment Committee.
