Bayville's 11th Annual Polar Bear Swim

Many local residents in Bayville came out to wish each other a Happy New Year and watch the 2010 Polar Bear Swim. At 11:00am, there was a 4k warm-up run to the Bayville Bridge followed by the very quick 12:00pm swim in the Long Island Sound, at the end of Shorewood Drive in Bayville. A food fest around a warm fire lasted into the late afternoon. Those brave enough to endure the cold should save the date for next year; same time and same place. One local resident said she wore her “summer bikini.” The swim is an annual event for friends and neighbors. Anyone may participate. They celebrate, in a healthy way, the gifts we all enjoy in this community. They also honor those that make that possible, like our troops, veterans, active, and fallen. During this past year, they lost long-time participants such as Dr. Richards, Mr. Gugerty and Tom Beauchamp.
