Martin, Alastair B., age 94, formerly of Glen Head. Alastair Bradley Martin was born in New York City, and graduated from Princeton University in 1938. He was a grandson of Henry Phipps, the partner of steel magnate Andrew Carnegie. He was an eight-time national amateur singles champion and a thirteen-time amateur doubles champion in court tennis. He won the United States Open court tennis singles title in 1951 and the Opens double championship three times, in three different decades. He was named president of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, the forerunner of the United State Tennis Association, in 1979, after two years as its first vice president. He was a president, chairman and an inductee of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI, and president of the Eastern Lawn Tennis Association. He was also the chairman of the Brooklyn Art Museum from 1984-1989, a member of the acquisitions committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from 1973-1975. He was the founder and chairman of the Regional Broadcasters Group, a chain of radio stations.
He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Moore of Greenwich, CT., a son Robin of Washington, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. His wife, Edith died in 1989.

Messera, Mary T. (nee Agostinello) on February 7, age 90, of Oyster Bay. Beloved wife of the late Dominic. Loving mother of Roseann Blackburn (Thomas), and the late Louis R. Messera. Cherished grandmother of Desiree, Catherine, and Kevin. Dear sister of Catherine Messera, Albert Agostinello (Josephine), and Anthony Agostinello (Angie). McCLOY, Norman Everitt, Sr. of Bayville, on February 4, age 88. Norman was born on June 18, 1921 in Locust Valley. Norman's career began as a painter and paperhanger, working for many famous people on Centre Island. Then, in the 1960s along with the help of his wife, Florence, he opened "Norm's Tackle Shop" which was located in the village of Bayville. He was known far and wide for the fishing rods he made by hand. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many hobbies. Among them, boating, which he would do on the weekends while spending time with his family on his cabin cruiser. He loved fishing, either by boat or on the shore. He also enjoyed hunting, taking annual trips upstate to hunt deer. He raised poinsettias and carnations in a greenhouse he built. He grew vegetables and enjoyed giving his produce to others. Another hobby of Norman's was photography. He took pictures and portraits and developed them in his own dark room. After selling the Tackle Shop, he developed a passion for woodworking. He made hot plates, clocks, tables and kitchen cabinets. He was successful with all that he did. He served on the Bayville Board of Education. Exempt member of Bayville Fire Co. where he served as a past president. Also member of the Mill River Rod & Gun Club. Beloved husband of the late Florence. Loving father of Gail Korneliusen (Thomas), Norman E. Jr. (Wendy) and the late Penny Jean. Proud grandfather of Erin, Michael and Jill. Special great-grandfather of Henry and Norman. Visitation and Service held at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Interment Bayville Cemetery.

Sack, Jean Harvey of Locust Valley and East Norwich and more recently of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 31. Born March 29, 1923, in Stranraer, Scotland, Jean immigrated to the US in May of 1927 with her mom and brothers aboard the ship Transylvania, where they were met in New York Harbor by her dad, who had arrived ahead of them.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Sack and her five children: Russell and Ellen Sack of Novato, CA; Chuck and Jill Sack of Austin, TX; Barbara and Jim Brooks of Austin, TX; Gerry and Angelo Curro of Golden Colorado, and Vance and Meg Sack of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jenny Sack, Emily and husband John Cunnie, Joss and Rory McKernan, Dylan and Stuart Sack, Stephen and Nina Curro and Rebecca and Stephanie Sack.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Vance and Elizabeth Harvey, and her two brothers, Vance and James Harvey of Glen Head and Locust Valley.
Jean was a devoted wife and mother and had the opportunity to travel internationally with her husband and in her own words said that, " after visiting many less fortunate countries, it makes me thankful to be an American citizen."
The loves of her life were her handsome Marine, her children and grandchildren, and the sound of the ocean, as Jean was always drawn to the beach.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials on her behalf to the Salvation Army, an organization that Jean was particularly fond of for the good work they provide.
A memorial service in Jean’s honor took take place at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, on Tuesday, February 2.
The family extends their sincere gratitude for the loving care provided by the critical care and hospice staffs at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
