Hicksville Woman Indicted in Violent
Glen Cove DWI Crash

Erin Marino

A grand jury has indicted a Hicksville woman on numerous assault and drunk driving charges after she plowed into a minivan that was stopped at a red light in Glen Cove.
Erin Marino, 29, has been charged with Assault in the First Degree, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Vehicular Assault in the First Degree, Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, four counts of Assault in the Third Degree, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, two counts of Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Speeding. She faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
District Attorney Kathleen Rice said that at approximately 11:30a.m. on June 25, 2009, Marino was driving her BMW at an extremely high rate of speed northbound on Glen Cove Road. Marino failed to stop at a red light at the intersection at Town Path Road in Glen Cove and crashed into the rear right side of a Dodge Caravan carrying a couple and their two young children, ages two and four.
Marino was estimated to be driving well over the posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour, with a blood-alcohol content of .19 percent at the time of the crash, more than twice the legal limit.
The children’s mother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered fractures to her hips, ribs, and her cervical spine. She cannot walk without the assistance of a cane. Both children and their father, who was driving the Caravan, suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
“If ever a case demanded further scrutiny by a grand jury, this was it,” Rice said. “I felt strongly that this defendant should face the highest possible charges and I am glad that the grand jury agreed. I will continue to fight for the victims of drunk driving crashes and work to ensure that the worst of the worst drunk drivers face the most severe punishment possible.”
Assistant District Attorney Matthew Lampert of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau is handling the case for the District Attorney's Office. The defendant is represented by Brian Griffin, Esq. Erin Marino will be arraigned on February 16.
