Obituaries

Ames, Lucia Millham 98, a resident of Locust Valley, from 1939-1994, died Thursday November 12, in Lexington, MA. She was an past member of many community organizations including Operation Democracy and the Oyster Bay Visiting Nurse Association. Mrs Ames volunteered at the Community Hospital at Glen Cove and was head of its volunteer organization in the 1950s. She was also active in the Hospital Association of New York State’s volunteer committee. She served on the American Hospital Association’s Council on Volunteer Services as Vice-Chairman in 1966-1967 and as Chairman in 1968. She was also a member of the AHA’s National Advisory Council on Health in 1971-1972. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Community Hospital at Glen Cove. For many, years Lucia Millham Ames served as treasurer for the Locust Valley Public Library.She was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Richmond Hill High School in Queens and St Lawrence University in Canton, NY. She married Newton Millham in 1932. Mr. Millham died in 1982. She married Amayas Ames then of Cold Spring Harbor, NY in 1995. Lucia and Amayas Ames moved to Brookhaven at Lexington in 1996. Mr. Ames died in 2000. She is survived by her children, Peter V. Millham of Gilford, NH; Luica Michielli of Lamoine , ME; Kate Latimer of Bethany, CT; Clodagh Lee of Fairfax, VA and Newton (Tony) Millham of Westport, MA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Amyas Ames Nature Path at Brookhaven, Lexington, MA. A memorial service was held at First Parish Church, Lincoln, MA.

BErry, Audrey E. on November 14, age 76, of East Norwich. Beloved wife of Wesley. Loving mother of David (Sandra Blades), and Douglass (Peggy). Sister of Donald T. Spengeman.
