The Blizzard of 2009

It looks like the north shore will have a white Christmas due to the blizzard of 2009 that roared over Long Island on the eve of December 19 and into the early morning hours of December 20.  As of Sunday, December 19, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that “preliminary data,” showed there to be about two feet of snow across the region.   A ruler on a picnic table in a backyard in Matinecock measured 12.5 inches at 7am.  Mineola recorded 13.4 inches.  The intense low was centered about two hundred miles east of Nantucket.  Snow should remain on the ground for the foreseeable future as meteorologists predict cold, chilly weather for the remainder of this Christmas week.
