Suozzi Concedes

After a month long recount in the race for Nassau County Executive, two-term incumbent Thomas Suozzi finally threw in the towel and conceded defeat to Legislator Edward Mangano. Suozzi’s announcement from the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineloa brought tears to the eyes of Suozzi loyalist who were hoping to overcome Mangano’s unofficial 377 vote lead.
Suozzi stated that, “I’m proud of this government and what has been accomplished these last eight years,” with special emphasis on the recent improvement of Nassau’s bond rating as a result of his administration’s efforts. Suozzi blamed his loss on a poor economy, poor voter turnout and excessive school taxation, that he had no control over; however he left the door open to a future run for public office.
Suozzi, along with fellow Democrats County Comptroller Howard Weitzman, Legislators David Mejias and Jeffrey Toback were all casualties of the tsunami that likewise ousted New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano.-
